About

I am an associate professor of political science at the University of Brasília. Between 2019-2020 I was a visiting scholar at CILAS (Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies) at the University of California in San Diego. I received a D.Phil in Politics from the University of Oxford (St. Anthony’s College) in the summer of 2005.

My research has focused  on executives and coalition politics,  elections, parties, and party systems in presidential and/or federal settings. My primary expertise is in South America, and particularly Brazil.

Since 2018 I am a CNPq research fellow (level 2). In 2017, I received a Brazil studies fellowship (Programa de Cátedras Brasil) awarded by the National School of Public Administration (ENAP).

In 2020, my project on the reorganization of the political right in Latin America was one of the winners of the LASA/Ford Special Projects Competition.  This collaborative project has resulted in an edited volume – The Recasting of the Latin American Right – to be published by Cambridge University Press.

My most recent research looks at the causes and consequences of polarization in Latin America. This project will rely on a nationwide survey of the Brazilian electorate to explore how partisan and leader cues shape voters’ behavior, in addition to analyzing the sources of mass polarization across Latin American countries using LAPOP data.

I am a member of the Political Behavior, Institutions and Public Policy Lab (LAPCIPP) at the University of Brasília. You will find  more detailed information on our research lab (in Portuguese) here.
